EPISODE THREE

Building the Boats for Rising Waters, So That All May Float

Join host Jesse Fripp with very special guest Donna Gambrell – one of the most influential leadership voices of our time for equitable and inclusive community finance across diverse communities and rural America – for a candid conversation that draws the lines between the lessons of personal and intergenerational resilience, connections to place yet with global perspective, and the urgency of focused attention to build resilience of America’s most vulnerable communities and people in the face of the evolving climate crisis.

EPISODE TWO

From the South Shore to the World: A Personal Conversation With the Founders of the Most Important Bank in America

Jesse Fripp with ron and Mary

ShoreBank played a transformative role in catalyzing the inclusive finance movement in the US and around the world. Among other influences, ShoreBank is broadly credited with inspiring the US Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) movement, including through serving as the model and inspiration for the 1994 Riegle Community Development and Regulatory Improvement Act, enacted during President Clinton’s first term – who described ShoreBank as "the most important bank in America".

In Part 1, Ron and Mary describe their personal journey and connection to the people and context of the times in Chicago and its iconic South Side that eventually inspired the creation of ShoreBank.

In Part 2, the discussion shifts to focus on their personal and professional international journey, as well as a deep-dive on the two-edged sword of technology innovation, challenges to scale for the US CDFI movement, alternative capital approaches, and the critical role of mentoring, knowledge-sharing and trust-building in the future of the inclusive finance movement.
